The 2K International Writers’ Blog Tour – Steven Baird

stevenIโ€™m a full-time ad designer for a chain of newspapers which publishes in Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, Oklahoma, Georgia and several other states. I currently live in S.W. Virginia in a remarkably isolated area with my wife Angela and a horse, dog, cat, and several chickens. Iโ€™m a native Canadian so I still miss (after almost 8 years!) my daily Tim Hortonโ€™s coffee. I actually dream about it.

I first thought myself a writer when I was 10 years old. Iโ€™m 55 now, so itโ€™s been awhile. At my former job, I was an ad designer, a columnist, part-time editor, did pagination, and helped set up the plates for printing. Occasionally Iโ€™d insert flyers if there was time. So Iโ€™m familiar with the business.

Writing, for me, has always been the best means of expression. Novels have always fascinated meโ€ฆ the pacing, the character development, the plottingโ€ฆ

  1. I remember Tim Hortons! I’ve only been to Canada once- to Montreal- and I remember that place. I am not an avid coffee drinker so I liked the donuts. Mmm.
Nice to get to know you better! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you. I’m glad I didn’t screw it up… only my second interview. And Tim’s does have great donuts. My favorite is the Boston Cream. Now I’m going to dream about them too! ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. You were great! It’s obvious you are comfortable with yourself. Your answers were thoughtful and… I don’t want to say revealing but I can’t think of a better word. You’re open, I guess. And funny.
I’m a simple girl, I go for raised glazed, maybe occasionally cinnamon dusted. No creamy fillings but I don’t have a big sweet tooth. Are there no Tim’s in the States? They should work on that! Start the campaign, Steve! I’ll join in! ๐Ÿ˜€

      2. I don’t know if I’d say comfortable… maybe with my writing. I think it’s funny that people are more taken by my photography. That wasn’t what I had in mind. I thought I’d just post one here and there, but it’s become bigger than my writing. I just started to take photography seriously a year ago, and think the two go hand-in-hand. I’m very visual, I guess. I’ve been thinking of adding something to the blog, “Come for the photos, stay for the writing,” but I don’t want to be pushy. A lot of people do follow both and I’m grateful. Self-promotion does not come easily. But thanks to that interview, I sold another copy, and a couple more people said they were thinking about it. So I’ve sold 18 in three and a half months! Yay!
I don’t have a sweet tooth either. I’d rather sit down with a bag of chips than a chocolate bar. And I think there are some Tim’s in the U.S., in some of the larger northern cities like Chicago and New York. And I know there are a couple in West Virginia. Long drive for a cup of coffee, but maybe someday….

  2. Okay, well if not comfortable then you are good at answering questions about yourself. ๐Ÿ™‚ Your photos are really great. Nature is something that we all enjoy, I think. And you live in a beautiful location. That plus your clever and funny titles makes them popular. I don’t think that phrase is pushy at all, though.
Oh, you know, maybe I did see a Tim’s in NYC when I was there. Hmm. I grew up hating chocolate, and I would get the weirdest looks, lol. I like it now, but only a small amount and only if there is something like nuts in it. I also hate Oreos which is like, blasphemy according to some people. But, eww, their texture makes me shudder(and not in a good way) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Glad the interview worked in your favor!

  3. Thank you. If it helped me to sell a couple more books, that’s great! I know it takes time so I’m glad the photos are there. And I’ll keep putting them up because I like them. It’s a nice surprise to find out that I’m good at it.
Everyone has different taste and appreciation for things. I don’t like Starbucks coffee, and I like coffee. And iced coffee? I don’t understand the concept. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I gotcha on iced coffee but I do like Starbucks and I don’t like coffee. Lol. I pretty much only drink it because my husband brings it to me on the weekends. It’s like a ritual now and it makes him happy so I drink it with lots of cream and sugar. ๐Ÿ™‚
Yes, you are good at it!
