“Our” horse Sullivan, in a quiet moment.
Sully is really my wife’s horse, and he just turned twelve. We bought him when he was a two-year-old, and one of the first things we did before moving to Virginia was to see if he was eligible for dual citizenship. Just kidding. But it was almost as complicated as my own paperwork.
What most convinced me to buy him was his gentleness and his kind eyes. He’s a big boy, 16.2 hands, but there’s a bond between Ange and Sully that’s intriguing. It all comes down to trust and kindness.
I’ve ridden him two or three times in those ten years, but it ain’t my thing. It’s not a trust issue, it’s a falling-down-and-breaking-something issue. And it wouldn’t be his fault. I prefer to watch from the sidelines, this special dynamic between wife and equine.
And I still trust his kindness. That says a lot.
Oh Steven….he is beautiful! I can totally see the kindness. Love this shot! Thank you!

Thanks, Eva. He wasn’t eager to be photographed, but he was tolerant. 🙂

I think unless someone’s been around horses a lot, they don’t realize what personalities they have. My lack of skill tends to get me scraped off on tree branches, but I’ve known many who are sweet. 🙂

I leave the riding to those who know what they’re doing. He has his moods, but don’t we all? Mostly, he’s just sleepy. 🙂

your fear is valid…I’ve been thrown from a horse, there was a tarp, I was familiar with for years…now horses are like it’s her lol…

I’ve never been thrown, but my wife was years ago, and hard. I was amazed that she still wanted to ride.

There is something really special when you connect with a horse. The love that they share or, as you said it, kindness…It’s just something that can’t be felt with any other animal. At least, that’s what I think… 🙂 Beautiful post! 🙂
